The Ford Performance team is set to launch a new single-make race series using the Mustang Dark Horse R.
The 500-plus horsepower track-only Mustang will serve as the race platform for the series.
It is likely that the unconfirmed series will be sanctioned by IMSA.
The Dark Horse R has several race-specific modifications including the removal of the stock fuel tank and its replacement with a racing cell.
The Dark Horse S, a non-street legal version of the Dark Horse, is also being created.
The Dark Horse R will be available for sale later this year.
This new series will be the first spec series for the Mustang and will be an opportunity for Ford to demonstrate the capabilities of its performance vehicles.
Rushbrook, Ford Performance Global Motorsports Director, announced that the new series is currently under development.
While no further details have been released, Sportscar365 believes that the series could be sanctioned by IMSA.
The Dark Horse R will be the perfect car for the new series as a track-only Mustang with specific race modifications.
